In life we are confronted with so many things. Often we do not see any more how to cope with the matters of daily life.
Lots of people think they do not need a god or the God of Abraham and Jesus. But also by those who believe in that Divine Creator, some people think they can cope independently until bad luck strikes them.
We all aspire too much. We do hope for a lot of things to happen. Furthermore, we would love to look at a life without problems, but that is nearly impossible. We cannot hope always to avoid illness, but prayer can help us think differently about the illnesses we get.
We can choose merely to hope to be good to others, or we can elect to pray about goodness and thereby become more likely to actually do the good that we intend.
There are so many things that happen in a lifetime, that many do forget to see what causes all those things to go one way or the other. They forget to notice how lucky they were in many cases or what benefits come their way.
We can « walk sightless among miracles » of the everyday, or we can utter blessings that capture the moment and captivate the heart.
We can eat our food as the animals do or bracket meals with the will to do our messianic work in the window of opportunity we call our lives.
Likewise, we can let each day become the same as every other, or we can fill our year with the prayers evoked by the spirit of our time and the consequent feel of the seasons; and thereby remain deeply human, warmly empathetic, on fire with courage, and renewed in hope.
We can live in homes with nothing sacred, true, and noble, or we can fill our lives with prayer and blessing at every turn. We can mark time only in secular birthday parties, wishing we were not getting any older, or we can repeat on each and every occasion,
“Blessed are You, Adonai our God, ruler of the universe, who has given us life, sustained us, and brought us to this season.”
Becoming a prayerful person is about the choices we all make. Finding the way into prayer can be the first step on a life-changing and life-enhancing journey.
