Vol hoge verwachtingen waren de Europeanen afgezakt naar Amerika, « het beloftevolle land ». Maar eens daar aangekomen leek het toch niet allemaal zo makkelijk te gaan als ze gehoopt hadden. Eenmaal gesetteld zochten de immigranten werk, maar dat bleek ook niet zo makkelijk te gaan, want er was een tekort aan mogelijke banen.

Er waren nooit genoeg banen, en werkgevers maakten vaak misbruik van de immigranten. Mannen uit Europa of China kregen over het algemeen minder betaald dan andere werknemers, en vrouwen minder dan mannen. Dit veroorzaakte sociale spanningen, die een gekend onderdeel gingen uitmaken van de immigrantenervaring. Vaak stereotiep en gediscrimineerd, kregen veel immigranten te maken met verbale en fysieke mishandeling omdat ze ‘anders’ waren, terwijl grootschalige immigratie veel sociale spanningen veroorzaakte, leverde het ook een nieuwe vitaliteit op in de steden en staten waarin de immigranten zich vestigden.

Het moet gezegd worden, de nieuwkomers hielpen de Amerikaanse samenleving en cultuur te transformeren, wat aantoonde dat diversiteit, evenals eenheid, een bron van nationale kracht is.

Maar er moest zeer hard gewerkt worden en soms bleef er niet zo veel tijd over om te denken aan God en gebod, alhoewel velen er toch werk van maakten om hun zondagsplicht te houden.

John Thomas zijn studies in de jaren 1830-40 vormden de basis voor veel van de overtuigingen die hij ging omarmen als Broeder in Christus of Christadelphian een naam die hij had gekozen volgens de woorden delphos (broer) en delphia (stad) met daarbij de verbintenis met Christus.

In het « certificaat » dat John Thomas schreef voor Samuel Coffman en « the brethren of Ogle County » (tien mannen in totaal) verwijst Thomas naar de Antipas Association of Christadelphians in New York als de uitgevers van een pamflet genaamd ‘Yahweh Elohim’. Hij haalt dit aan als bewijs dat er al een denominatie met de naam « Christadelphian » bestond. Maar om de pacifisten te registreren zodat dat ze niet hoefden te gaan vechten in de Amerikaanse Burgeroorlog, maakte hij de benaming officieel, zodat zij als een christelijke denominatie kunnen door gaan.

De verengelste samensmelting van de Griekse woorden geeft een voorstelling van de nauwe relatie tussen Christus en zijn gelovigen.

« Aan de heiligen en trouwe broeders in Christus. » (Kolossenzen 1:2)

Voor Thomas was het belangrijk dat we als gelovigen proberen Christus te imiteren en dat wij zijn leerstelling opvolgen, terwijl we zoals hij het Woord van God als onze grote leidraad nemen.

Voor de volgers van Dr Thomas, zij het met de naam Thomasite, Bijbelstudent of Christadelphian, was het belangrijk om naar elkaar toe te groeien en door het leven te gaan als broeder en zuster in Christus. Hierbij was het ook van het allergrootste belang dat men eerder de Bijbel ging volgen in plaats van een kerkelijke macht. Zij beschouwden de Bijbel als het geïnspireerde en onfeilbare Woord van God, waarin wij de kennis moesten gaan opzoeken.
Ze begrepen ook uit Jezus zijn toespraken dat het belangrijk was om verder het Goede Nieuws te gaan verspreiden. Ze leerden daarom ook het belang van prediken, en zo gingen ze door het land terwijl ze Gods Woord verkondigden. Zo konden op meerdere plaatsen kleine bijbelse Studentengroepen gevormd worden en zelfstandig verder groeien.

Een van Thomas, zijn studenten, zou een grotere Bijbelonderzoekersbeweging oprichten die resulteerde in verschillende groepen, waarvan de millennialistische, restaurationistische geloofsgemeenschap Jehovah Getuigen een afscheuring was die later een zeer sterke unitaire beweging werd.

De volgers van die Bijbelstudenten zagen in dat voor hen de tijd nog niet was aangebroken om de verwezenlijking te zien van de veel betere Nieuwe Wereld.

Zij leerden over het Aards Paradijs waar de Tuin van Eden vol pracht en praal was, en waar er geen problemen waren. Die Tuin was een onderdeel van Gods Plan, dat wegens de keuze van de eerste mens onderbroken is geworden. Maar we kunnen er op aan dat God zijn Plan wil voleindigen.

Niemand minder dan de Nazareense Joodse leermeester, Jeshua ben Josef of Jezus Christus, is het grote voorbeeld geworden naar ons toe, wiens woorden van een betere wereld echt mogen geloven. Het Paradijs is net zo min een mythe of legende als hij dit is. Heel wat mensen twijfelen aan zijn bestaan, maar er is meer over hem geschreven en gekend dan over andere historische figuren, waar niemand over twijfelt dat ze bestaan hebben.

Het geschiedkundige bewijs is overweldigend dat hij twintig eeuwen geleden als volmaakt mens op aarde was. Ooggetuigen en persoonlijke metgezellen van hem hebben ons een geschreven getuigenis achtergelaten van wat hij heeft gezegd en gedaan — zijn smetteloze leven, zijn onrechtvaardige, gewelddadige dood en zijn miraculeuze opstanding uit de doden. Jezus zijn afstammingslijn staat zelfs volledig geregistreerd in het archief van de stad waar zijn menselijke moeder Maria, de dochter van Eli, de zoon van Matthat, woonde.

Jezus leerde en geloofde dat ’s mensen oorspronkelijke tehuis, het « Paradijs van Geneugte », eens had bestaan en dat Adam en zijn vrouw er wegens ongehoorzaamheid aan God, hun Schepper, uit werden verdreven. Maar hij geloofde ook, zoals enkele andere profeten voor hem vertelden over de toekomst, dat die betere wereld in Gods Plan verwezenlijkt zal worden.

Jezus zag ook uit naar het herstel van het Paradijs voor de mensheid en verwachtte tevens een aandeel aan dat herstel te hebben. Dr Thomas had heel wat werk om de mensen uit de verschillende denominaties duidelijk te maken dat zij niet naar de hemel of de hel zouden gaan bij hun dood, maar dat er een opstanding uit de doden zou plaats grijpen, waarbij Jezus de mensen zou oordelen en al of niet in zijn Koninkrijk zou binnen laten.

De meeste godsdiensten geven aan dat de mens maar een tijdelijk verblijf op aarde heeft, waarna hij ofwel reïncarneert ofwel naar een vagevuur gaat vooraleer in de hemel de belanden. Hierdoor zien velen de aarde als weinig meer dan een doorgangshuis, een tussenstation op weg naar een ander leven. Sommige geestelijken beweren ten onrechte dat God deze planeet op een dag zal vernietigen. Als gevolg van zulke leerstellingen vinden veel mensen dat ze maar beter alles uit het leven kunnen halen wat erin zit, omdat hun toch alleen maar de dood te wachten staat.

We moeten echter beseffen dat God een schitterend voornemen heeft met de aarde en de mensheid. Het is verkeerd te denken dat de Schepper de aarde louter voor niets zou geschapen hebben. De Goddelijke Maker heeft het universum gevormd en de aarde geformeerd om ook bewoond te worden.

“Dit zegt Jehovah, die de hemel geschapen heeft – hij die de Ware God is -, die de aarde gemaakt en gevormd heeft en die haar heeft gegrondvest- niet als chaos schiep hij de aarde, maar om te bewonen heeft hij haar gevormd: Ik ben Jehovah, er is geen ander.” (Jes 45:18)

Ook vertelt de Schrift ons dat

“De rechtvaardigen zullen het land bezitten en het bewonen, hun leven lang.” (Ps 37:29)

“want wie rechtschapen zijn, zullen wonen in het land van de levenden, wie onberispelijk hun weg gaan, zullen er een vast verblijf vinden.” (Spr 2:21)

“Gelukkig de zachtmoedigen, want zij zullen het land bezitten.” (Mt 5:5)

Ja degenen die zachtaardig zijn, zullen de aarde voor zich krijgen, om daar een leven te kunnen leiden dat geen einde zal kennen.

“… in de tijd en wereld die nog komt, zal er eindeloos leven zijn.” (Mr 10:30)

Bij het doornemen van de Bijbel kunnen we die dingen te weten komen over Gods voornemen met de aarde en de mensheid. Door een grondige Bijbelstudie zal je ook geholpen worden te begrijpen waarom we hier zijn en warom alles zo verloopt als het al eeuwen aan het verlopen is.

Gelovigen in de enige Ware God die eveneens zachtmoedig zijn hebben een goed vooruitzicht want

“10 Nog even, en verdwenen is de zondaar, je kijkt waar hij is, maar vindt hem niet. 11 Wie nederig zijn, zullen het land bezitten en gelukkig leven in overvloed en vrede.” (Ps 37:10-11)

Nog een korte tijd ullen we nog geconfronteerd worden met oorlog, pijn en verdriet,maar na de zeer Grote Oorlog (Wereldoorlog 3 of Armaggeddon) zal het einde in zicht zijn en zullen de oorlogen ophouden tot het uiteinde van de aarde.

“(46:10) wereldwijd bant hij oorlogen uit, bogen breekt hij, lansen verbrijzelt hij, strijdwagens verbrandt hij in het vuur.” (Ps 46:9)

“Hij zal rechtspreken tussen de volken, over machtige naties een oordeel vellen. Hij zal de zaken rechtzetten in verband met veel volken. Zij zullen hun zwaarden omsmeden tot ploegijzers en hun speren tot snoeimessen. Geen volk zal nog het zwaard trekken tegen een ander volk, geen mens zal meer weten wat oorlog is.” (Jes 2:4)

Nu is het nog een grote soep, maar wij kunnen er op vertrouwen dat er een veel betere wereld komt dan de deze. In die wereld zullen we ook niets te kort komen.

“Dan zal er een overvloed van koren zijn in het land, zelfs op de toppen van de bergen. Rijpe aren zullen golven als de bossen van de Libanon. Vanuit zijn stad zal voorspoed ontluiken als jong groen op de aarde. (En in de steden zullen mensen bloeien als de plantengroei op aarde)” (Ps 72:16)

Er zal zelfs vrede zijn tussen mens en dier.

“6 Dan zal een wolf zich neerleggen naast een lam, een panter vlijt zich bij een bokje neer; kalf en leeuw zullen samen weiden en een kleine jongen zal ze hoeden. 7 Een koe en een beer grazen samen, hun jongen liggen bijeen; een leeuw en een rund eten beide stro. 8 Bij het hol van een adder speelt een zuigeling, een kind graait met zijn hand naar het nest van een slang. 9 Niemand doet kwaad, niemand sticht onheil op heel mijn heilige berg. Want kennis van Jehovah vervult de aarde, zoals het water de bodem van de zee bedekt.” (Jes 11:6-9)

“Wolf en lam zullen samen weiden, een leeuw en een rund eten beide stro en een slang zal zich voeden met stof. Niemand doet kwaad, niemand sticht onheil op heel mijn heilige berg-zegt Jehovah de Heer.” (Jes 65:25)

Pleins d’attentes élevées, les Européens étaient descendus sur l’Amérique, « le pays prometteur » Mais une fois arrivés sur place, tout ne semblait pas aussi facile qu’ils l’avaient espéré Une fois installés, les immigrants cherchaient du travail, mais cela s’est avéré non plus si facile, car il y avait une pénurie d’emplois possibles.

“Béni soient les doux, car ils posséderont le pays.” (Mt 5, 5)

Oui, ceux qui sont doux auront la terre devant eux, afin d’y vivre une vie qui n’aura pas de fin.

“… dans le temps et le monde à venir, il y aura une vie sans fin.” (Mr 10 :30)

En parcourant la Bible, nous pouvons apprendre ces choses sur le dessein de Dieu pour la terre et l’humanité, et grâce à une étude biblique approfondie, vous serez également aidé à comprendre pourquoi nous sommes ici et pourquoi tout se passe comme il se passe depuis des siècles.

Maintenant, c’est encore une grosse soupe, mais nous pouvons avoir confiance qu’il y aura un monde bien meilleur que celui-ci Nous ne manquerons de rien dans ce monde non plus.

Il y aura même la paix entre les humains et les animaux.

“6 Alors un loup s’allongera à côté d’un agneau, une panthère s’assiéra avec une chèvre ; veau et lion se nourriront ensemble et un petit garçon les rassemblera.7 Une vache et un ours paîtreont ensemble, leurs petits sont rassemblés ; un lion et un bœuf mangent tous deux de la paille. 8 Un nourrisson joue à la tanière d’une vipère, un enfant saisit de la main le nid d’un serpent 9 Personne ne fait le mal, personne ne fait le mal dans toute ma montagne sainte Car la connaissance de Jéhovah remplit la terre, comme l’eau recouvre le fond de la mer.” (Ésaïe 11 :6-9)

“Le loup et l’agneau se nourriront ensemble, un lion et un bœuf mangeront tous deux de la paille, et un serpent se nourrira de poussière : personne ne fera le mal, personne ne fera de mal dans toutes mes saintes montagnes, dit l’Éternel, le Seigneur.” (Isa 65 :25)

One of Thomas, his students, would found a larger Bible Student movement that resulted in several groups, of which the millennialist, Restorationist faith community of Jehovah Witnesses was a breakaway that later became a very strong unitary movement.

The followers of those Bible students realized that the time had not yet come for them to see the realization of the much better New World.

They learned about the Earthly Paradise where the Garden of Eden was full of pomp and circumstance, and where there were no problems That Garden was a part of God’s Plan, which has been interrupted because of the choice of the first man But we can insist that God wants to complete His Plan.

None other than the Nazarene Jewish preceptor, Jeshua ben Josef or Jesus Christ, has become the great example towards us, whose words of a better world are truly to believe Paradise is no more a myth or legend than it is. Many people doubt his existence, but more has been written and known about him than about other historical figures, but, no one doubts that they existed.

The historical evidence is overwhelming that he was on earth twenty centuries ago as a perfect human being, eyewitnesses and personal companions of his have left us a written testimony of what he has said and done — his spotless life, his unjust, violent death and his miraculous resurrection from Jesus’ lineage is even fully recorded in the archive of the city where his human mother Mary, the daughter of Eli, the son of Matthat, dwelt.

Jesus taught and believed that the original home, the « Paradise of Pleasure », had once existed and that Adam and his wife were driven out of it for disobedience to God, their Creator, but he also believed, as some other prophets told him about the future, that that better world will be realized in God’s Plan.

Jesus also looked forward to the restoration of Paradise for humanity and also expected to play a role in that restoration. Dr. Thomas had a lot of work to make it clear to people from different denominations that they would not go to heaven or hell at their death, but that a resurrection from the dead would take place, where Jesus would judge people and whether or not he would let them into his Kingdom.

Most religions indicate that man only has a temporary stay on earth, after which he either reincarnates or goes to purgatory before it ends up in heaven. Because of this, many see Earth as little more than a transit house, a way station on the way to another life. Some clergy wrongly claim that God will one day destroy this planet. As a result of such teachings, many people feel that they should get the most out of life, because they only face death.

We must realize, however, that God has a splendid intention with the earth and humanity, it is wrong to think that the Creator would have created the earth merely for nothing The Divine Maker formed the universe and formed the earth to be inhabited as well.

“This is what Jehovah says, who created heaven – He Who is the True God – who made and formed the earth and who founded it – not as chaos did he create the earth, but to inhabit it He formed it: I am Jehovah, there is no other.” (Isa 45:18)

Scripture also tells us that

“The righteous will possess the land and inhabit it all their lives.” (Ps 37:29)

“for those who are righteous will dwell in the land of the living, those who walk their way blamelessly will find a steady abode.” (Spr 2:21)

“Blessed are the meek, for they will possess the land.” (Mt 5:5)

Yes, those who are gentle will have the earth before them, in order to live a life there that will have no end.

“… in the time and world to come, there will be endless life.” (Mr 10:30)

In going through the Bible, we can learn those things about God’s purpose for the earth and humanity, and through a thorough Bible study, you will also be helped to understand why we are here and why everything is going as it has been going for centuries.

Believers in the one True God who are also gentle have a good prospect because

“10 Just a little while, and gone is the sinner, you look where he is, but do not find him. 11 Those who are humble will own the land and live happily in abundance and peace.” (Ps 37:10-11)

For a little while longer we will be confronted with war, pain and sorrow, but after the very Great War (World War 3 or Armageddon) the end will be in sight and the wars will end until the end of the earth.

“(46:10) worldwide he bans wars, breaks bows, shatters lances, burns chariots in fire.” (Ps 46:9)

“He will judge between the nations, judge mighty nations, He will set things right in connection with many nations, They will forge their swords into plough irons and their spears into pruning knives No nation will draw the sword yet against another people, no man will know what war is.” (Isa 2:4)

Now it’s still a big soup, but we can trust that there will be a much better world than this. We won’t lack anything in that world either.

“Then there will be an abundance of corn in the land, even on the tops of the mountains, ripe ears will wave like the forests of Lebanon From his city prosperity will blossom like young greenery on the earth. (And in the cities people will blossom like vegetation on earth)” (Ps 72:16)

There will even be peace between humans and animals.

“6 Then a wolf will lie down next to a lamb, a panther will sit down with a goat; calf and lion will feed together and a little boy will herd them. 7 A cow and a bear will graze together, their young are gathered together; a lion and an ox eat both straw. 8 An infant plays at the den of a viper, a child grabs with his hand to the nest of a serpent 9 No one does evil, no one makes mischief in all my holy mountain For knowledge of Jehovah fills the earth, as the water covers the bottom of the sea.” (Isa 11:6-9)

“Wolf and lamb shall feed together, a lion and a ox shall eat both straw, and a serpent shall feed on dust: no man shall do evil, no man shall make mischief in all my holy mountain-says Jehovah the Lord.” (Isa 65:25)
