The Words of God in Pilgrimages

Above all, the pilgrim finds himself gathered together with others to listen to the Word of God, and the light of this word provokes in him a new look of faith on his own life, and on the rejection he has made of God on many occasions. He discovers the road ahead. Like David, like the prodigal son, he turns away from his sin and turns to God, who is always ready for forgiveness. He does penance in the full sense of the word: his pilgrim confession is the starting point of an authentic conversion.

In joy, and in an atmosphere of celebration, he partakes of the bread and wine together in memory of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ (the Eucharist). He experiences the unity that exists among all the children of God: there is truly one faith, one Lord, one baptism, one God and Father, but also an unfeigned charity, which carries with it peace and happiness. Finally, he finds himself part of the Church’s mission. At the same time, he feels solidarity with all men in the same struggle for justice and freedom.

Life is a pilgrimage

It is in a second phase that pilgrims will discover, in the light of the Word of God, that the unfolding of their life takes on a new meaning in the radiance of the realities lived during a pilgrimage: « Life is the true, the only pilgrimage ».

A Journey to Meet God

Like pilgrimage, human life is a journey to meet God. God has always been looking for man to give himself to him and he offers him an exchange of love, which is realized in Jesus Christ. The sanctuary that the pilgrim frequents is only the image of that « perfect sanctuary » which is the humanity of Christ. God was the first to love us with an extraordinary love through the gift he gave us of his Son, Jesus Christ.

A walk in the Church

Son of God, who came to the earth of men, ‘the Word of the Father which he reveals, ‘a servant who accepts suffering’, he continues his mission in the Church.
Through Baptism, he united us to the mystery of his death and resurrection. Now, when we gather in the ecclesia, we feel connected as brothers and sisters in Christ, but even more so with our Divine Father, the One True God. This connection with God or God’s covenant with His people, and us, gives us the strength to go on in life.

And his Spirit is beginning to realize in the community of believers the unity towards which the whole of humanity is on the move.

An Upward Walk to Holiness

It is also in the Church that the Christian receives the eternal Word of God. He receives it in faith, and in its light he perceives the vocation to holiness which is his and which he must realize throughout his life and through the most diverse forms of his activity. He will do so, not on the cheap, nor even passively, but with a fully lucid commitment, the true dimension of which he sometimes needs to rediscover. Through his work, in his daily life, the effort made will not only be a legitimate search for the happiness for which he is made, but also a contribution to the building of a new world.

De woorden van God in bedevaarten

Bovenal is de pelgrim samen met anderen om naar het Woord van God te luisteren, en het licht van dit woord roept in hem een nieuwe kijk van geloof op over zijn eigen leven en over de verwerping die hij bij vele gelegenheden van God heeft gemaakt. Hij ontdekt de weg die voor hem ligt. Net als David, als de verloren zoon, keert hij zich af van zijn zonde en wendt hij zich tot God, die altijd klaar staat voor vergeving. Hij doet boete in de volle zin van het woord: zijn pelgrimsbiecht is het startpunt van een authentieke bekering.

In vreugde en in een sfeer van viering neemt hij samen van het brood en de wijn ter gedachtenis aan het Laatste Avondmaal van Jezus Christus (de Eucharistie). Hij ervaart de eenheid die bestaat tussen alle kinderen van God: er is waarlijk één geloof, één Heer, één doopsel, één God en Vader, maar ook een ongeveinsde naastenliefde, die vrede en geluk met zich meebrengt. Ten slotte maakt hij deel uit van de zending van de Kerk. Tegelijkertijd voelt hij zich solidair met alle mensen in dezelfde strijd voor rechtvaardigheid en vrijheid.

Het leven is een pelgrimstocht

Het is in een tweede fase dat de pelgrims, in het licht van het Woord van God, zullen ontdekken dat de ontplooiing van hun leven een nieuwe betekenis krijgt in de uitstraling van de werkelijkheden die tijdens een pelgrimstocht worden beleefd: « Het leven is de ware, de enige pelgrimstocht ».

Een reis om God te ontmoeten

Net als een pelgrimstocht is het menselijk leven een reis om God te ontmoeten. God is altijd op zoek geweest naar de mens om zichzelf aan hem te geven en hij biedt hem een uitwisseling van liefde aan, die in Jezus Christus wordt gerealiseerd. Het heiligdom dat de pelgrim bezoekt, is slechts het beeld van dat « volmaakte heiligdom » dat de mensheid van Christus is. God was de eerste die ons met een buitengewone liefde liefhad door het geschenk dat Hij ons gaf van Zijn Zoon, Jezus Christus.

Een wandeling in de kerk

Zoon van God, die naar de aarde van de mensen is gekomen, « het Woord van de Vader dat Hij openbaart, « een dienaar die het lijden aanvaardt », zet hij zijn zending voort in de Kerk.
Door het doopsel heeft hij ons verenigd met het mysterie van zijn dood en verrijzenis. Als we nu samenkomen in de ecclesia, voelen we ons verbonden als broeders en zusters in Christus, maar nog meer met onze Goddelijke Vader, de Ene Ware God. Deze verbinding met God of Gods verbond met Zijn volk, en met ons, geeft ons de kracht om door te gaan in het leven.

En zijn Geest begint in de gemeenschap van gelovigen de eenheid te realiseren waarnaar de hele mensheid op weg is.

Een opwaartse weg naar heiligheid

Het is ook in de Kerk dat de christen het eeuwige Woord van God ontvangt. Hij ontvangt het in geloof en in het licht ervan ziet hij de roeping tot heiligheid die de zijne is en die hij zijn hele leven en door de meest uiteenlopende vormen van zijn activiteit moet verwezenlijken. Hij zal dat doen, niet goedkoop, zelfs niet passief, maar met een volledig lucide inzet, waarvan hij soms de ware dimensie moet herontdekken. Door zijn werk, in zijn dagelijks leven, zal de inspanning die hij levert niet alleen een legitieme zoektocht zijn naar het geluk waarvoor hij gemaakt is, maar ook een bijdrage aan de opbouw van een nieuwe wereld.

Les Paroles de Dieu dans les pèlerinages

Surtout le pèlerin se trouve rassemblé avec d’autres pour écouter la ‘Parole de Dieu, et la ‘lumière de cette parole provoque chez lui un nouveau regard de ‘foi sur sa propre vie, et sur le ‘refus qu’il a opposé à Dieu en maintes circonstances. Il découvre la route à suivre. Comme David, comme l’enfant prodigue, il se détourne de son ‘péché, et se tourne vers Dieu toujours prêt au pardon. Il fait pénitence dans le plein sens du terme : sa confession de pèlerin est au point de départ d’une authentique ‘conversion’.

Dans la joie, et dans un climat de ‘fête’, il prend part au pain et le vin ensemble en mémoire de la dernière Cène de Jésus-Christ (l’*Eucharistie). Il fait l’expérience de l’*unité qui existe entre tous les fils de Dieu : il y a vraiment une même ‘foi, un seul Seigneur, un seul ‘baptême, un seul ‘Dieu et Père, mais aussi une charité sans feinte, qui porte avec soi ‘paix et ‘bonheur. Enfin, il se retrouve partie prenante de la ‘mission de l’*Eglise. En même temps, il se sent solidaire de tous les hommes dans un même combat pour la ‘justice et la ‘liberté.

La vie est un pèlerinage

C’est en un deuxième temps que les pèlerins découvriront, à la ‘lumière de la ‘Parole de Dieu que le déroulement de leur ‘vie prend un nouveau sens dans le rayonnement des réalités vécues au cours d’un ‘pèlerinage : « La vie est le vrai, l’unique pèlerinage ».

Une marche à la rencontre de Dieu

Comme le ‘pèlerinage, la ‘vie humaine est une marche à la ‘rencontre de Dieu’. Depuis toujours, Dieu est à la recherche de l’homme pour se donner à lui et il lui propose un échange d’*amour, qui se réalise en ‘Jésus Christ. Le ‘sanctuaire que fréquente le pèlerin n’est que l’image de ce «sanctuaire parfait» qu’est l’humanité du Christ. Dieu nous a aimés le premier d’un ‘amour extraordinaire par le don qu’il nous a fait de son Fils, ‘Jésus Christ.

Une marche en Eglise

Fils de Dieu, venu sur la terre des hommes, ‘Parole du Père qu’il révèle, «Serviteur qui accepte la souffrance», il continue sa ‘mission’ dans l’Eglise.
Par le ‘Baptême, il nous a unis au mystère de sa *mort et de sa résurrection. Maintenant, lorsque nous nous réunissons dans l’ecclésia, nous nous sentons connectés en tant que frères et sœurs en Christ, mais encore plus avec notre Divin Père, le Seul Vrai Dieu. Cette connexion avec Dieu ou l’*alliance de Dieu avec son peuple, et nous, nous donne la force de continuer dans la vie.

Et son *Esprit commence à réaliser dans la communauté des croyants l’*unité vers laquelle l’humanité tout entière est en marche.

Une marche ascendante vers la sainteté

C’est en *Eglise également que le chrétien reçoit la *Parole éternelle de Dieu. Il la reçoit dans la *foi, et à sa ‘lumière, il perçoit la ‘vocation à la sainteté qui est la sienne et qu’il devra réaliser tout au long de son existence et à travers les formes les plus diverses de son activité. Il le fera, non pas au rabais, ni même passivement, mais dans un ‘engagement pleinement lucide, dont il a parfois besoin de retrouver la véritable dimen­sion. A travers son ‘travail, dans sa ‘vie quotidienne, l’effort fourni ne sera pas seulement une recherche légitime du ‘bonheur pour lequel il est fait, mais aussi une contribution à l’édification d’un monde nouveau.
